Ted Dekker's latest series is worthy of a place alongside Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.

Tolkien created Middle Earth, Lewis gave us Narnia and now best-selling author, Ted Dekker contributes Other Earth. This fantastical land is home to humans, furry creatures with bat wings called Roush, evil red-eyed Shataiki and a powerful Vampire bat named Teeleh.

Before stepping into the fantasy genre, Ted Dekker made a name for himself writing compelling stories with a Christian perspective. His thrillers include best sellers THR3E, Obsessed and Adam. Novels such as Blink of an Eye and Blessed Child are just two of his contributions to the world of mystery.

Dekker's latest series, "The Lost Books," begins with 'Chosen' and is a continuation of his foray into juvenile fiction. If this one book is any indication of what he can offer this ever-growing genre, our children's imaginations are safe.

Forest Dwellers' Fate Lies in Teenagers' Hands

The fate of all Forest Dwellers is at stake; the Horde is determined to decimate them. The recruitment age for the Forest Guard has been lowered from eighteen to sixteen and four recruits have been chosen from thousands. Before they receive their commission, they must prove themselves on a quest.

Other forces are at work and the foursome become part of a larger game in which recovery of the seven lost Books of History is crucial. However, they are sworn to secrecy and cannot share what they know of the books. The youthful warriors must accomplish their mission without the help of the Forest Guard.

Dekker has created a vibrant world, interesting species and well developed characters. There's more going on than meets the eye; subplots peak interest but don't overshadow the main story. Lots of action and vivid descriptions make Chosen a page-turner.

Old Masters Influence New Generation

Juvenile fiction is a huge and profitable business. It's a genre apart from children's literature. Contemporary books for tweens and teens have progressed from Nancy Drew / Hardy Boy mysteries; this evolution provides a strong alternative for today's youth to sink their teeth into.

J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis opened the door to fantasy with time-tested creations; J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan added to the genre with original, engaging stories. Dekker learned from these outstanding examples and contributed a vision that will surely stand the test of time.

From now on, we live in a world where Sauron, Voldemort and Teeleh are poised to wreck havoc; they destroy to gain power. Frodo and Harry Potter no longer fight alone, they have Johnis and his comrades helping them hold the line. Our heroes will forever triumph over evil, at least in the pages of fiction.

I read all three of these books and I was so taken with the "Great Romance" that I found times of crying for love for my own "Great Romance" with my Bridegroom. Ted Dekker has something in him given to him by the Father that causes him to understand or at least to write about the love He has for us. I just finished "Blessed Child" and again I am taken aback with the wonderful understanding of Ted's seeing into the Kingdom of Heaven and the love of God for His children. I am going to read more of these books as I am anxious to know more about how Ted sees the love of God and how he writes about it. Marge

I have been reading the lost books series and thought that it is absolutely great. I've read the first three and am dying to save up enough money for the last one. Every time I read a page I had to turn to read the next one. I love the way that Ted puts Christianity into a whole new perspective and lets it flow through his writing. I hope and pray that God continues to bless him through his writing as he already has. Ted truly has a bright and talented mind. A gift from God.
