Edward Cullen has become an obsession of teenage girls all over the world - but what about his true love, Bella?

Stephanie Meyer created a sensation after publishing the first book in the Edward Cullen series, Twilight. In 2006, with the publication of the second book, New Moon, Meyer gained even more fans for her series, making the third book even more anticipated.

The book starts off with a bang as Bella is with the Cullen's for her birthday and cuts her finger on a piece of wrapping paper. One of the vampires who has just recently crossed over to only drinking animal blood cannot contain himself and attacks Bella. Edward must jump in between them to save Bella, and it is this even that makes Edward realize how dangerous their relationship could be to Bella.

Edward decides to go away, to save Bella, but really this send Bella into a dark, downwards spiral. She lives in what she describes as a "zombie-like" state, with little purpose or meaning to her life. Bella begins trying to find dangerous activities to do, in hopes that she'll hear Edward's voice of warning.

First she decides to approach a group of dangerous looking guys at the movies, but Edward's voice warns her against it. Then she decides to ride a motorcycle, but first Jacob Black must fix the bike. Edward warns her against this, but not just because of the danger on the bike - Jacob could also pose a danger. He is very much enamored with Bella, but readers and Bella alike learn in this book that Jacob is a werewolf. Finally, Bella decides to go Cliff Diving, because her life is simply not complete without Edward, however as she is plunging into the watery depths, uttering what might be her last words to Edward, wherever he is, Jacob jumps in and saves her.

When Bella gets hom that night, Alice, Edward's sister, is there, because she saw in a vision of the future that Bella would try to committ suicide. Edward, who also hears this, had not heard she was saved, so he goes to Italy where hopefully the counsel will agree to kill him, as he no longer wants to go on living. Bella and Alice arrive in Italy just in time to prevent this from happening, and here they must all make an important decision about whether or not Bella should become a vampire.

New Moon spent two weeks at the top spot of the New York Times best seller list for children's chapter books, and spent 30 weeks on the list altogether. Still a popular series, with the recent release of book 4, the third book in the series is called Eclipse.
