A Guide to New Moon by Stephenie MeyerThe Twilight Saga's Highly Anticipated Second Movie Debuts Nov. 20
Stephenie Meyer's four-book Twilight Saga has turned into a worldwide phenomenon, and the Nov. 20 release of the New Moon movie has a following of its own.
Any fan of the Twilight Saga knows Bella Swan and Edward Cullen as the love struck couple at the center of the plot line. But many characters who had only cameos in the first book stepped up in the second book as major players in the story. A few favorites include Bella's best bud Jacob Black, Edward's sisters Alice and Rosalie and Edward's brother Jasper. As any Twilight and New Moon fan knows, the internal conflict arises within Bella after Edward leaves her, presumably for her safety because she doesn't belong in his world. Edward's snap decision comes after Jasper nearly attacks Bella at her birthday party at the Cullens' home after she gets a paper cut opening a gift. New Moon Movie Develops Key CharactersEdward is absent through a majority of the book, leaving Bella in a deep depression, and her hero emerges in the form of Jacob Black, who she later refers to as her 'sun.' Twi-hards, Twi-fans and those fans who dare not name themselves will be pleasantly surprised to see their favorites see more screen time in the second movie. Quileute Wolf Pack Sees Screen TimeBella's beloved friend Jacob learns in New Moon that he's a descendent of his Native American tribe's wolf pack, as are his two best friends and a few others in the tribe. The wolf pack plays a significant role in New Moon, and their existence poses one of the major conflicts in the book as they came into existence because of the presence of Edward's family, the Cullens. The wolf pack is lead by Quileute tribal member Sam Uley, who at first Jacob believes is the leader of a tribal gang, therefore has Jacob fearing Sam and the other boys, Paul and Jared. First Appearance of the Volturi CovenThe Italian coven and vampire 'law makers,' the Volturi emerge in New Moon and they play a significant role in the remaining books as a major catalyst for Bella, the Cullens and the wolf pack. The Volturi consist of three centuries-old vampires, their wives and a guard consisting of some of the most gifted and unique vampires. The most terrifying of the guard include Jane, who has an angelic face but can use her mind to inflict intense pain upon her victim and a vampire with super-tracking skills. The New Moon movie is expected to be even more popular than Twilight, and with a larger budget and larger cast, fans won't be disappointed come Nov. 20.
